Today is the calm before the storm according to the weather service. We are supposed to have temperatures in the 40's or even maybe 50's - after weeks of subzero temperatures this sounds really great. There is also supposed to be some wind to blow out the dirty air and give us a chance to breathe freely. Of course tomorrow is another story...the storm that is currently pounding the California coast is supposed to move into Utah around noon tomorrow. The weathermen are reporting 6 to 10 inches in the valleys and feet in the mountains. Of course we live just south of the Great Salt Lake so we usually get some extra snow from lake effect. My thought is that if it is going to snow - let it snow! Maybe we could actually be snowed in; this has only happened maybe three times in my lifetime so it would have to be a HUGE event.
It would be fun to build snowmen, throw snowballs, and snuggle in the house with a warm fire and a good book! Of course this would all hinge on the fact that all of the utilities are working and haven't been taken out of commission by the storm.
Now that we are officially through with Christmas and a few days into the New Year we have to have something fun to look forward to!
Last night we started the process of taking down Christmas - this is always a downer and instead of visions of sugarplums I start seeing smog, freezing temperatures, and a long cold winter. So I guess that looking forward to a winter wonderland, enjoying warm temperatures before the storm, and keeping my mind on the beauties of this season will help to make the long winter days and nights more palatble. Before you know it we will be enjoying spring and all of the newness that accompanies that wonderful season.
