It's been a couple of weeks since we took our trip to Capitol Reef - I have been a slacker - so I'm finally sharing my pictures and the fun that we had. We took an evening hike through Big Wash - it was fun but a little spooky too - there are lots of nooks and crannies in the canyon that could hold little and big critters intent on doing you harm. LOL!!! We didn't ever use our flashlights and the temperature was perfect! It was tons of fun!
Here is a picture of the hikers - minus Kelsey she was taking the picture. This was a good group - we shared meals and had so much fun! Thanks to everyone for being so AWESOME!!
We found a little swimming hole after our hot day hike to Calf Creek Falls - the guys had a great time jumping off the rocks and swimming under the waterfall. MaKayla just lvoed the water - she is a little fish! Ray is missing in this picture because he was the photographer.
Here is Ray at Calf Creek Falls getting some nutrition and fuel for the hike back. This is a tough hike - it is 3 1/2 miles through sand. We saw lizards, a squirrel, petroglyphs, Anasazi ruins, and lots of red rock. It is a beautiful place but I would definitely suggest hiking early in the morning - the afternoon sun is brutal. I was so proud of everyone - we made it in and out with no injuries or major problems. Ray did end up carrying MaKayla about half way out - she kept saying that her feet were burning and she couldn't walk any further. It was hard but what a great sense of accomplishment!
This is Marc in the water by Calf Creek falls - the water is COLD!!!! It feels great for the first few minutes but then you start feeling pain and then numbness setting in. We stayed and played in the water for about a 1/2 hour after our walk in. It was a good rest before starting back out.
Here's MaKayla getting ready for the Calf Creek Hike - she was a Trooper - that is a long hike and she did it with very little complaining. She also kept us entertained with her great imagination and ability to tell stories. We loved having her with us!We loved the whole trip - especially getting away for a few days! I would highly recommend this trip - the campground in fruita was very nice - the canyon is spectacular - and the town of Torrey is very quaint. If you love hiking and camping this is a wonderful get-away!
Thanks to everyone for a really fun time!
